The earth is our home, our planet. Each puff of wind, water flow and green leaf are critical towards ensuring a balance. Scientists have a habit of calling the Earth the two lungs, the green lung (forests) and the blue lung (oceans) since they produce and store the oxygen that supports life.
The Green Lung: forests on the Earth.
The world has almost 30% land covered by forests that form the largest terrestrial ecosystem on earth. Photosynthesis is a process of carbon dioxide absorption by trees which release oxygen, making 28 percent of the oxygen present in the air.
Forests such as the Amazon Rainforest, commonly referred to as the lungs of the planet are very important in stabilizing the climate, air filtration, and sustaining millions of plant and creature species.
The Amazon: Beating Heart of the Green Lung.
The Amazon is replacing 2 billion tons of CO 2 per year alone and this serves as a buffer against climate change.
And it is not only an environmental matter but also the need to save the Amazon, Congo Basin and Southeast Asian rainforests is the question of saving the breathing capacity of the Earth.
The Blue Lung: Our Oceans
Although forests receive significant focus, the oceans are the real giants of the production of oxygen in the world. Oceans cover more than 70 percent of the earth surface and produce over 50 percent of the oxygen that is found on the earth and this is mainly through a type of micro-algae known as phytoplankton.
These small creatures store carbon dioxide and give out oxygen during the process of photosynthesis and thus the ocean is our most important climate controller.
The importance of Marine life in Climate Balance.
The ecosystems of the ocean absorb heat, trap carbon, and interfere with weather patterns, which include coral reefs, deep-sea currents, and so on. Southern ocean absorbs 40 percent of all the emissions of CO 2 produced by humankind as a natural air purifier.
The marine biodiversity, marine mammals such as whales, marine planktons, and seagrasses, assists in the stabilization of the carbon cycle. Every living organism has a role to play in ensuring that the earth remains habitable.
Planet is being choked by Human Activities.
Deforestation, pollution of oceans, overfishing, and greenhouse gas emissions are gagging the two lungs of planet Earth. With forests being burned down and oceans being saturated with plastic, carbon uptake and oxygen manufacture is reduced significantly.
The yearly emission of CO 2 through deforestation alone is up to 20 per cent of the total CO 2 gases in the world. Likewise, the overconsumption of CO 2 that is leading to ocean acidification is killing the phytoplankton and coral reefs which have thus further depleted the oxygen supply on earth.
The Interdependence of the Green and the Blue.
Forests and oceans are not independent systems as they are intertwined. Trees also give moisture that rains down supplying rivers moving into the ocean. In the meantime, oceans evaporation affects rainfall patterns, which provide support to forests.
The failure of one lung causes the other one to strain. An ailing forest causes warming of the ocean and a weakening ocean causes the ailing of forests.
Finding a Way Back: What Could be Done.
The restoration of coral reefs, the restoration of forests and the control of pollution are all essential in restoring lungs of the Earth.
Simple measures such as lessening plastic consumption, endorsing sustainable ocean, planting trees, and using clean power make people a part of this restoration.
The Strength of Consciousness and Performance.
Saving the planet begins with the realization of the level of attachment we have with the systems of the planet.
Each and every tree planted and each and every piece of plastic avoided helps in making the lungs, which keep our world alive, stronger.
Climate change is a global crisis that requires preventive strategies to be implemented by everyone to preserve the planet.<|human|>Conclusion: Earth Breath Is in Our Hands.
The two lungs of our planet, the green and the blue, are not hurt irreparably. We must all work together as the world, live sustainably and be environmentally conscious so that the earth can breath its last as long as generations can live.
Household since the planet inhales, man flourishes.
